Major requirements to become an officer include:
- Completion of high school or GED (some college preferred) - transcripts required
- Age 21 within thirty (30) days of projected graduation date from BLET academy
- Must meet vision, hearing, and other physical requirements
- No felony convictions and no serious misdemeanor convictions in the past five years
- No DWI/DUI convictions within the past 10 years
- No domestic violence convictions
- Valid driver's license and no suspensions of driving privileges in past three years
- Meet credit requirements (14 points or less)
- U.S. Citizenship
